Christmas activities to do in Birmingham

Botanical Gardens Christmas Tour:

Tickets:£16 for an adult, £10 for a child (4-16)

The Botanic Gardens in Birmingham are lit up this year in celebration of Christmas. It’s so much fun and so beautiful to follow the festive lights trail around the botanic gardens whilst sipping on a hot chocolate or mulled wine from the festive market before entry.

Do note that you need cash if you would like to purchase mulled wine, hot chocolate or smores from the market stalls.

German Christmas Market

Every year in Birmingham the festive German market arrives around the bullring. The German Christmas market is full of festive drinks, sweet treats, festive gifts and handmade decorations.

The market is well priced with hot drinks at £4.50 a cup + £3 if you would like to keep the cute mugs. I make sure that I attend the market every year just so that I have my annual Baileys hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows.

As for the Christmas shopping in Birmingham, there is such a choice. Birmingham has all of the shops that you could want whether it be high street or designer. They have main shops like Selfridges, Debenhams, Topshop, New Look, H&M, Boots, Ted Baker, Coach, Micheal Kors etc.

There is parking available, a choice of restaurants and only £3 a day and for now, the Bullring is open until 10pm each day!

Support your local artists – Birmingham

Hey Guys,

I know I don’t normally blog about music and I know this isn’t Christmas themed so I apologise. Recently an artist sent me his EP via Instagram to give a listen to and some feedback. I just loved the EP so I decided to review it and share it with you all!

I think it’s important to support local and smaller artists in the music industry. I’m a huge music fan and I even used to do grades in piano and singing when I was younger and in high school!

I want to Introduce you to Jake Warner. He is a young musician from Leicester.

Jake started writing music two years ago. He writes his own music and says that he loved creating every song on this EP! Life is a story that inspired his lyrics.

“We’ve got the rest of our lives if we are gonna be together, it’s only hard for a while but when I see you we will say wasn’t that easy because we were meant to be”

Screen Shot 2017-11-22 at 16.19.16

His friends and fellow fans love his lyrics and continue to support him on his journey by attending his gigs and sharing their appreciation.

Jake hosted a headline show last year in Leicester and he was overwhelmed with the love and support that he received and he says that the feeling of the positive reactions, support and after show adrenaline are addictive and something that he hopes will continue to grow!

Jake’s new album will be out in December just in time for Christmas. I really enjoy his music and cute lyrics about love and girls.

He has a very soothing tone with the guitar and his singing and I’ve already added his new EP to my chilled out playlist and favourite songs playlist. His style reminds me of artists such as Ed Sheeran, James Bay and Shawn Mendes.

I think that he’s very talented and produced a high-quality EP with some really catchy tunes included. I’m sure I will find myself humming his songs. His song are all his own too rather than covers which I think is great.

The perfect girls night in

Hi guys,

I don’t know about you but I haven’t had a sleepover or a movie night in with the girls in ages. Me and my group of friends often go out clubbing, to gigs, shopping or out for lunch. I haven’t had a sleepover with a Disney movie, chocolates and face masks in a long time and I miss that. You are never too old for Disney!

This blog post is all about how to achieve the best night in and sleepover with your girlfriends. Just like the good old times with chocolates, face masks and gossip about boys!

Step one: Get in your pyjamas and apply a face mask

Screen Shot 2017-09-25 at 09.48.54.png

This is the best way to start your girly slumber evening. Pampering is always a treat and it’s even better when shared with a friend.

I am wearing Lush’s coffee face mask in the above picture. The mask smells strongly and deliciously of coffee and it claims to detox and exfoliate your skin. My friend Kayleigh  (Featured in the image below) got me this mask because she knows that I’m a total coffee addict. If you’re a coffee addict like me then you can get the mask HERE from Lush at an affordable price!

Screen Shot 2017-09-25 at 11.35.55.png

Step two: Music

Whilst the face masks sets I like to set the scene and listen to music whilst I catch up with my girlfriends. I am lucky enough to have a Bose speaker which my Dad kindly got me as a gift. It was a very lovely present for working hard and moving into my flat.

Bose produce very high-quality speakers at a premium cost but I can guarantee you that Bose are well worth the cost. You can get this exact speaker from places like Currys, John Lewis and Amazon.

I made a playlist especially for my girls night in that you too can follow and listen to. This playlist includes some girly hits such as “Run the world – Beyonce“, “We got the world – Icona Pop“, “Love Yourself – Justin Biber” and many more girly top hits.

Go check it out and let me know what you think of it! I’m adding to the playlist as I go along and find more tunes!

Step three: Chocolates

You can’t have a girly night in without some junk food. I just love Cadburys chocolate over Ice cream and crisps any day – sugar all the way! This Cadburys selection box is the perfect treat for a sleepover as there is something for everyone to enjoy!

Who doesn’t love a good chocolate selection box?

Step four: Disney Movie

The fourth and final step after removing your face mask and making a start on the yummy chocolate selection is to snuggle up in bed with candles and fairy lights and watch a Disney Movie.

My favourite Disney movie has to be Tangled. I can relate so much to Rapunzel in the sense that she has a creative and shy personality. I’m totally in love with Flynn or as his real name is Eugene and Pascal totally reminds me of my friend Amy – Sorry Amy!!

I hope that this guide helps you and your girlfriends to prepare the ultimate girls night in! What are your girls night in essentials and what’s your favourite Disney movie?  I would love to know in the comments below?!

See you next week for a new blog post!

Autumn/Winter pamper routine

Hi Guys,

I haven’t done a routine blog post before and seeing as Autumn is my favourite time to get cosy and motivated I thought that I would share with you my Sunday routine.

This routine helps me to get prepared for the week ahead and enjoy some cosy pampering too!

Time for some pampering: I like to start off my Sunday by having a bubble bath and taking some time to pamper my skin, body and mind. A bubble bath really helps me with this as I like to lay in the bath with a face mask, book and soothing scents.

Bath time is the time where I like to reflect on this week positives and negatives, detox my skin and prepare my body and mind for the week ahead.

Skincare: When it comes to my skincare in Autumn/Winter I like to use a lot of moisturising products. At the moment I’m loving the Moisture Bomb moisturiser from Garnier alongside with a lip balm from The Body Shop!

Screen Shot 2017-09-20 at 09.34.07

Early Night: Before bed, I like to apply some essentials. This includes lip balm, hand cream and a pillow spray. Recently I’m loving The Body Shop’s NEW Pumpkin Spiced Lattee. It’s the perfect deep nourishing and spicy smelling hand cream!

Lip balm is another key essential for me in winter as my skin dries out so much at this time of year sadly! EOS lip balms are a great one to keep your lips soft and plump!

Time for bed: I am always a granny when it comes to my sleep. I like going to bed early and getting as much sleep as I can. I am definitely not a night owl and I especially enjoy an early night on Sunday to make sure that I am ready for the week ahead.

See you next Sunday for a new blog post.

St. Kitt’s Herbery Review

Hi Guys,

If you’ve been following my social media then you will know that I was in Cornwall a few weeks ago enjoying the beautiful scenic walks, hunting down the Poldark cast and enjoying some retail therapy.

It feels like forever ago now that I’m back at university in my final year working hard!

ST Kitts Herbery is one of my favourite shops in Cornwall. You can find anything from herbal migraine remedies to delicious and unique chocolates. The prices are mid-range but offer high-quality products and packaging.  The staff are very friendly and helpful.  The shop is also easily found on a satnav.

The prices are mid-range but offer high-quality products and packaging.  The staff is friendly and the shop is easy to find on a sat-nav.

My Purchases and Review:

Lavander Oil: A migraine and stress relief

I am very unlucky when it comes to getting regular migraines and I’ve found that this helps massively with releasing a migraine before or once it comes on.

Lavander is also a very relaxing and soothing scent that helps with anxiety, stress and panic attacks. All of which I personally struggle with occasionally alongside my intensive two-year marketing degree.

Facial Exfoliator: A natural exfoliant your skin

In terms of the facial exfoliator, I found both the texture and ingredients to be very gentle to my sensitive skin.

The exfoliation gel comes out as a light green colour with small black exfoliating beads. The gel has an oily and moisturising gel feel to it. Once washed off the exfoliant leaves a moisturised feel to your skin. The scent is very herbal but in my opinion non-offensive and not too highly scented either.

Body wash and conditioner: Rosemary and bergamot

When it comes to body wash I am not too fussy. I will use anything nicely scented and this body wash did not disappoint. It smells very relaxing and fresh which Is perfect for a nice warm shower in the evening before bed.

As for the body conditioner again it has a lovely warming scent and sinks in quickly. I found it to be very nourishing on my skin which is very dry at this time of year.

I would highly recommend these products if you are every lucky enough to visit both Cornwall and St Kitts Herbery. I am a huge advocate or natural products that aren’t tested on animals. I like to help small business where and when I can!

See you next Sunday at 6pm for a new blog post!

BoHo Queen Jewelry Review

Hi Guys,

Boho Queen jewelry recently got in touch with me offering me a statement necklace of my choice available from their very cute and unique website. Boho Queen makes unique necklaces, accessories, and swimwear all at an affordable price whilst still offering great quality.

They say that their website offers products fit for a queen – that sounds good to me?!

I picked out the Simple Shells necklace from their website as I thought it would be perfect for the many beach holidays that I have coming up both this year and next year!

I purchased this necklace and received it three days later bubble wrapped! There was no cost for shipping and I found the price of the necklace to be very affordable.

I am actually an ambassador for Boho Queen so I did receive a discount but even at its original price I find the necklace to be very good quality for its cost!

I would highly recommend that you go check out Boho Queens website. It’s the perfect place to find some high quality yet affordable accessories and swimwear. Whether you’re jetting off on a winter holiday or in need of some new statement necklaces Boho Queen is the perfect place!

The student bible

Hi Guys,

I know that some of you are off to University in September so here are some of my top tips for your first year!

General Tips:

  • Bring some fancy dress outfits. You will need them for freshers week if not Halloween!
  • Don’t bring your whole wardrobe as tempting as it is. Pick out your favorite pieces and leave some clothes at home for when you go home for the weekend.
  • Berocca is a great hangover cure so I’ve been told!
  • Check your Harvard referring and quotes again and again! Don’t loose silly marks on forgetting to reference quotes or not referencing correctly!
  • Never use Wikipedia! It’s unreliable and usually incorrect.
  • Pick who you will live with in your second year carefully. Don’t be afraid to say no to people if you’re not sure about them! I’ve been very careful with whom I classified as I friend this year to avoid drama!
  • Stay organized and up to date when it comes to your work. Never miss a lecture and risk falling behind as it’s very hard to catch up unlike at school.
  • Try and get enough sleep. Sleep is very important in order for your well-being and education!
  • Join a gym. It’s great for your well being and mental state more than anything! Going for a run when you’re stressed is an instant anti-stressor and cheaper than a massage!
  • Always keep some backup money! I was awful at overspending my money when I thought that I had more than I did and I had to ask my Dad very nicely for some extra money which he wasn’t too happy about!
  • Don’t work too hard. University is also about making some new friends and having fun!

Save yourself some money:

Unidays: Make sure to sign up to Uni Days to receive some great discounts at your favorite stores such as; ASOS, Nike, Levi, Zizzi’s, Krispy Kreme. All you need to sign up is your student email.

Studentbeans: This is similar to Unidays. Sign up to student beans to gain even more student discounts. All you need to sign up is your student email.

NUS: Make sure to purchase an NUS card as you can get big discounts and deals in some of your favorite shops, restaurants, and bars. Purchase a card HERE.

What to expect in your first year of University

Hi guys,

Going to University can be a very scary time in your life. It’s most likely to be your first time moving out of home to a new area all on your own. Before I attended University I had always been quite independent. The longest that I had been home alone for without my parents was two weeks where I did my own cooking, cleaning and washing whilst my parents were on holiday and even then I felt homesick and a little bit lost. Thankfully my friends drove me to and from college and hung out with me and my Mum taught me how to cook!

Living in a new town or city where you don’t know your way around and in a new flat with people you don’t know is quite a daunting experience to get your head around. Then there is the university which is a whole new learning experience with a lot more pressure than anything that you’ve previously experienced.

My best advice would be to embrace the experience. I was so excited about living on my own because I could decorate a new bedroom, experience true independence, and cook my own meals as well as also making some new friends in which I would hopefully have for life.

Shoutout to Amy and Kayleigh – the best flat mates and friends a girl could ask for!

Unfortunately for me, I had some issues with my accommodation as I had picked a new build which happened to be two months late thanks to the company Wilmot Dixon!! I stayed in a hotel for two months and I have done a total of 10 moves this year. Be warned that if you pick a new build it could be late meaning you go into temporary accommodation or a hotel for some time. It did make me even more thankful for my lovely new halls when I moved in however!

Freshers week was a completely new experience for me as before University I hadn’t really experienced going to nightclubs and being up past 11:30. Back in college, I was more of a gig girl going regularly to London to see my favourite artists in small venues and then usually heading straight home. Clubbing is defiantly a very different experience to gigs but I’ve found out that it’s a fun and social experience in which I now enjoy doing semi-regularly with my girl friends in order to catchup and have some fun.

14355722_549743008554246_2782076926323954088_n.jpgI enjoyed freshers week a lot more than I had expected to. I made some new friends, danced until my feet hurt and experienced a few hangovers. Even if you’re not the typical clubbing person I would highly recommend going to freshers week every single night. It’s such a great experience that you will most likely only enjoy once and freshers week is also a great opportunity to make some new friends and get rid of that homesick feeling.

In terms of lectures and University, I would recommend socialising with your course mates, listen to your lectures and ALWAYS take notes even if your lecturers are uploaded to an online platform. Staying organised and up to date will be your best friends when it comes to your degree.

Don’t fall behind.

Check out my; Back To School Tips blog post!

You’re so lucky to have been accepted into university and not everyone is lucky enough to be able to attend University so don’t take it for advantage and if you feel that you’ve picked the wrong course YOU CAN transfer courses at the same university or local universities. Lecturers are there to support you as well as teach you so if you’re unhappy don’t be afraid to tell someone!

Have fun and a big well done and getting into University. You’ve worked hard to get this far so keep working hard and soon it will pay off I promise!
