Giff Gaff – Spend Or Save Event

I was recently invited to an event with Giff Gaff. If you aren’t aware of who Giff Gaff are, they are a mobile provider.

Giff Gaff’s event involved a board game where we (bloggers) had to group together and chose where to spend and where the save. The top three winners of the board games would win money to give towards their chosen charity.

The event was held at the cutest cafe called Yorks and it is situated right beside the Ikon gallery which is a stunning modern art gallery. The building in itself is beautiful too and it’s right by the stunning Birmingham canal.

Pizza, prosseco, and cake was provided at the event – what more could you want?!

So the event started off with the bloggers being introduced to Charlotte and Steve who work for Giff Gaff. The explained a little bit about who Giff Gaff are, how they try and help their customers manage and save their money and what their overall brand ethics are.

“Finance is complicated. But, essential to reach life goals. ‘Traditional’ banks are great at keeping your money. But do you know where all your money goes to at the end of the month and how to make it go further? We wanted to help change that.” – Giff Gaff

So to help their customers out Giff Gaff offer a free credit report. By doing this they can help work out the best plan to suit each and every customer. This also helps their customers with managing money. If you don’t know what a credit check is then here is a short explanation taking from Giff Gaff’s website.

The credit report is easy to access and understand. It will really help Giff Gaff’s consumers understand how to better manage their money which is great.

“We’re designing a service with our members to help them be more in control & better at being on top of their money. We want to help members get savvy and get smarter insights into their finances, understand their money and build a better score, we believe that understanding your credit report can be the foundation for building healthy finances.” – Giff Gaff

Once we had met Giff Gaff it was time to get started with the board game. I always loved board games as a child and I still do. They’re a great way of getting people together and having some fun whilst learning how to work in a team.

The rules were simple and as follows;

Spend or Save is a game all about spending your money wisely and trying to save as much as you can. How you choose to do that is up to you!

You’ll be starting out as a fresh-faced 20-year-old with £1,000 to get by. As you make your way around the board you’ll have many incomings and outgoings to keep track of – from paying rent and dealing with bills to picking up a freelance job.

Each time you complete one circuit of the board you’ll find you’ve aged five years! It’s your goal to have more money than all other players by the time you reach retirement.

To help you succeed, you can decide to spend money on specific ‘Life Goals’ at any time, like buying a car or even getting married! They’re expensive, but they carry bonuses that may help you out in the long run.

Just make sure you can always make it back to Pay Day!

It was such a fun game. Sadly I died and ran out of money – story of my real life as a student!

It was great fun playing the board game and learning how to wisely invest and manage my money better. As a student soon to be graduate in the real world or work – this is all very important to know!

I had a great time at the event! Thanks so much to Jenny and Giff Gaff for inviting me!

Thank you to Elouisa for the pictures from the event!

I look forward to growing my money plant and hopefully keeping it alive… I’ll be using my piggy bank to save money for cocktail funds too. Everyone deserves a treat every now and then right?!
